BOONE & SCENIC VALLEY RAILROAD scenes taken on Saturday, May 21, 2005. They fired up and ran the steam locomotive JS8419 for the first time this season (I was told). It was to be used on a special excursion later than our regular trip, but I got  a short sound digital MPEG movie of it coming into the BSVRR station (http://www.trainweather.com/052105BooneIA-steam.mpg). There are photos of most of the tourist line's rolling stock. They also have one of the best railroad-related gift shops I've seen anywhere. If you like Thomas the Tank Engine and accessories, this is the store for you. They have lots of grown-up train stuff too and a great website: http://www.scenic-valleyrr.com/   Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad, 225 10th Street, P.O. Our train from the front. We left at 1:30 p.m.

Before we left, they pulled up the steam engine made in China, the JS8419, and ran it to the station.  Click on the photo above to see a half-mb sound digital MPEG movie clip of  this engine coming into the station with whistle blowing.

It's 1:08 p.m. May 21.

After we boarded our train, they backed the 8419 into the shop building.

The BSVRR runs to Frazier on the 100+ year old former electrified line.  We cross a 156-ft high trestle, 800 feet long. This is looking down from the trestle.  The line was originally built to haul coal.

The Des Moines River as seen from our coach.

At Frazier, our engine ran around the train and hooked on the other end to take us back to Boone.

Another view from the High Bridge crossing Bass Point Creek.

Back in Boone about 3:15 p.m. showing our colorful locomotive and Rock Island caboose 17051.
