Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Union Station in Little Rock. Included today
are units in NS, BNSF, CSX, Amtrak and UP flavors. The Texas Eagle Number
21 southbound arrived at 1000 a.m., 5 1/2 hours late due to an Amtrak equipment
problem and to a minor freight mishap near Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
According to Gene Poon, only 1/2 hour of the 5 1/2 hour delay ws caused
by the freight derailment. Mr. Poon also relayed that the West/Southbound
Texas Eagle, Train 21(21FEB) with AMTK 53 bottomed out on a grade crossing
and stopped 11 miles out of St. Louis for inspection. The pilot plow was
found bent up under the engine. The plow was so badly damaged it had
to be removed, but the unit could not continue in the lead with no plow.
The train reversed into St. Louis where AMTK 53 was removed and AMTK 127
added. Delay: 5 hr 08 min.
The AMTK 127 was the power for the Mule, Train 301 (22FEB).
At last report freight unit UP 6859 was obtained from UP for the lead position
on Train 301, with AMTK 53 trailing. There was no standby unit in place
at St. Louis.
